Telum Media hosted its latest in-person event in Hong Kong on Tuesday, 20th January 2026, with speakers from financial publications at Haymarket Media.
The panel featured Andrew Tjaardstra, Editor of FinanceAsia and CorporateTreasurer, and Peter Brieger, Editor of AsianInvestor. The session was moderated by Telum Media’s Mary-Jane Tan and was followed by a Q&A section and networking.
Held at Soho House, the morning discussion took a thorough dive into the newsroom at FinanceAsia, CorporateTreasurer, AsianInvestor, and AsianInvestor Wealth. Andrew and Peter shared comprehensive insights into each publication's editorial focus, frequency, readership figures, editorial mandates, as well as upcoming events and evergreen topics they consistently look out for.
While divulging the key topics that they’re looking into as of late - which includes ESG stories and the IPO market in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and India - Andrew and Peter also shared pitching tips for PR professionals and communicators.
Peter first doubled down on the importance in succinctness and having a strong grasp of the publication’s coverage. “If you know what the publication wants, then you’re already halfway there.” One way to do so, he continued, is to meet journalists face to face and build the human connection. A coffee catchup can help set the ground for follow-up conversations, clearer communications, and mutual understanding in the long run.
Andrew highlighted the value of embargoed and exclusive news, which can help journalists to better plan coverage and make the necessary adjustments for visibility and scheduling. It is also helpful that PR professionals understand the publication’s editorial calendar, schedule, and mandate, which can all help to keep pitches as relevant and efficient as possible.
The Q&A session ended with audience queries about the value of surveys and thought leadership, as well as a look into optimal, op-ed friendly columns.
